Rumors Swirl that MacGwire Might Be The New Cards Hitting Coach

It’s been reported that if Tony LaRussa comes back to manage the St. Louis Cardinals in 2010 (which is seeming like all but a formality right now), that he would replace current hitting coach Hal Mcrae, with the man who once swatted 70 Home Runs in a season and has been linked to several rumors of steroids use through out his career.

Yes the same Hal Mcrae who proudly owns one of the best meltdowns in Major League Baseball history.

And yes the same Mark McGwire who when last seen had almost been  reduced to tears in the Senate during the Steroids Hearings in 2005. Other than that, McGwire has been all but a ghost when it comes to public appearances. Though hitting coach is a fine job if you never want to be seen (no reason to come on to the field of play ever), the question to me is for a career .263 hitter, who specialized in hitting mammoth home runs (which have been alleged to be done with the use of performance enhancers), would Mark McGwire really be an effective hitting coach?

That would remain to be seen if this rumor becomes a reality.
