This afternoon, the Red Sox lost to the Angels 5-4 in extra innings.
But even a bigger story then the extra inning loss, lies in the box score, with the continuing demise of David Ortiz.
Sorry to be pessimistic to a guy who seems very likable off the field, but I’ll say it:
Stick a fork in him; David Ortiz is DONE.
On the season, Ortiz is now hitting .208, with 0 Home Runs, 15 RBI, and K/BB ratio of 30:20. Coming of a 2008 season where he had a laundry list of injuries, Ortiz seems over matched in every at bat now a days.
His lackluster season hit a new low Wednesday afternoon, as he went 0-7 with 3 K’s. Even more gross then that line is the fact he left 11 (YES, ELEVEN) runners on base during the game, including a dreadful 12th inning, two-out, bases loaded at bat where he hit the ball three-feet. The Angels would wrap the game up in the bottom frame.
It’s time to move Ortiz down in the order, because the 40 Home Run, game-winning hitting, helmet throwing, Big Papi of old- is old news.
